Which time of year is right for mountain hiking and trekking? Of course, any! Each season offers different, yet equally powerful experiences, and in fact you can say you have truly completed a trail only when you have seen it in spring, summer, autumn and winter. Besides proper physical preparation and a well-packed rucksack, to enjoy the outdoors you also need carefully chosen clothing – the kind that ensures thermal comfort, protects against difficult weather conditions, while not restricting movement and not causing irritation or pressure. One of the items most often chosen by hikers is the multifunctional trekking gilet. In our online shop you will find walking gilets for women and men, which will make tackling longer and shorter routes more enjoyable all year round. See why, when it comes to outdoor clothing, it’s worth trusting ATTIQ!
Are you browsing sports shop offers and wondering what the difference is between a trekking waistcoat and a trekking gilet? We are here with the answer – the difference is rather theoretical, and many manufacturers and distributors use both terms interchangeably. However, to satisfy formalities, we will explain how to tell one from the other.
A trekking waistcoat is thicker and warmer. We wear it in lower temperatures and in more difficult weather conditions. It is outerwear – so there is always something underneath. This may be a light long-sleeve top, but also a warm sweatshirt, and under them thermal underwear – it all depends on the circumstances and on our preferences.
A walking gilet is much lighter and thinner. Most often we wear it directly on the skin or over underwear. It mainly serves us on warm days, when less is more. It protects against overly intense sun, and often also has handy pockets that can easily fit a phone, an energy bar or a water bottle.
In practice, however, you will come across both terms used in relation to both types of clothing.
An outdoor gilet should make it easier for us to tackle even the most difficult routes. Whether it will do its job is determined by a number of factors. The material it is made from matters, the care taken with stitching, and the presence of additional useful features.
If you are going trekking in summer, you must protect yourself primarily against heat and UV radiation. Therefore, choose walking gilets made from breathable materials – mesh inserts are also welcome. Such a gilet should also wick sweat away effectively – a little friction is enough for salt crystals left on the skin to contribute to painful sores.
In winter we have completely different expectations of our sports clothing. Above all, it should provide thermal comfort – and that is not always the same as keeping you warm. Indeed, low temperatures require additional protection against the cold, but on the other hand the exertion itself in difficult terrain causes you to warm up. A gilet is therefore a good choice in that it protects the chest and back, while leaving the shoulders uncovered.
A trekking waistcoat for spring and autumn should, in turn, at least partially protect us from rain and from sudden gusts of wind. Underneath, we can wear a long-sleeve top or a sweatshirt.
We can vouch for the satisfaction associated with trekking in our outdoor gilets. Where does this confidence come from? Because the sportswear offered by our shop is not only designed and sewn by us, but we also wear it ourselves. So we do not make any compromises – it has to be perfect!
We carefully select materials and devise the cuts. We also remember useful details, such as reflective elements that increase safety or convenient pockets. See for yourself by choosing ATTIQ trekking gilets.
