“Merino” is revolutionising the sportswear market. The natural fibres of sheep originally from Asia and now more commonly found in Australia are a raw material with properties better than many synthetics, while being completely natural and biodegradable.
At ATTIQ we have prepared men's leggings made from merino fibres for you. What do you gain by choosing clothing made from this material?
- Reliable thermoregulation – merino fibre, due to its characteristic structure, can trap air, which in turn provides insulation from cold and wind in winter and protection from the sun in summer. Merino also works well as a fibre for clothing in the tropics, where days may be hot and humid (merino can handle that too), but evenings can be cold – then extra warmth comes in handy.
- Lightweight, pleasant-to-wear clothing – “merino” is an extremely light yet durable fibre. Men's merino leggings reinforced with elastane are a “pro” product – they are lightweight, provide excellent warmth (thanks to merino) and also fit the body's shape well (thanks to the added synthetic fibre). Merino itself is also elastic and springy – garments made from this wool do not crease much; even after a long route and with weight on top (e.g. a rucksack) they still look good.
- Breathability – merino fibres allow the body to breathe – there is no chance that, when wearing men's merino leggings, you will overheat and “sweat”. This material efficiently wicks moisture away and leaves the skin dry.
- A hard-to-describe pleasure of wearing – it reminds us of the feeling of being cared for when ill – wrapped up, warmed, hugged. Because merino garments are extremely light yet provide warmth (not to be confused with stuffiness), as soon as you put them on, it somehow feels more cosy and homely.
- Clothing with antibacterial properties – merino fibres limit the growth of bacteria, fungi and other unpleasant consequences of sweat on the skin. They also do not retain odours – even after a long trek you “can’t smell them”.
- Men's merino leggings dry faster – products made from this fibre dry within a few hours. So if, for some reason, you decide to rinse them e.g. in a mountain hut – you’ll be able to pack them dry into your rucksack after just a few hours.
Why are merino fibre base layers excellent sportswear? They are characterised by softness and a thin, fine structure – thanks to this they can crimp efficiently. Crimping, in turn, leads to the formation of numerous small “pockets” in which air is trapped – and it is in these pockets that heat is retained. As a result, people wearing clothing made from these fibres maintain their own body temperature.
Merino fibres have the ability to “control” humidity. On warm days they absorb its excess (moisture from the skin and from the air), and in cooler conditions they keep you warm even despite humidity outside. This makes merino wool clothing comfortable both during intense exertion and during moments of rest. It eliminates the feeling of unpleasant chill.
Men's merino fibre leggings (base layer bottoms) are an important part of winter sports clothing.
- They are trousers that should be considered a reliable first layer – putting on breathable base layers that maintain body temperature significantly increases safety in the mountains, on the slopes or on running routes. It protects against both overheating and chilling.
- Merio leggings with the addition of a sporty synthetic fibre are a garment that will spend many active seasons with you. They are durable, resistant to weather conditions, do not lose their shape in the wash and do not pill.
- They are the most sensible alternative to sports synthetics (which sometimes, although they wick moisture away perfectly, do not warm as “evenly” as merino wool). They also insulate better than cotton, which retains moisture and after just several minutes of intense training, when wet, cools the body.
- Men's merino leggings are lightweight and thin – and that is an important feature of “first layer” clothing. They do not restrict movement and adapt to the body.
- ATTIQ garments have universal colours and patterns (prints). That’s also how the merino fibre leggings were created. We wanted it to be effortless to pair them with clothing from other manufacturers or incorporate them into “urban” outfits.
- Merino sports leggings do not need to be washed as often as their synthetic counterparts. This means that in fact you can have one, at most two pairs of such base layers in your wardrobe. Merino is an extremely quick-drying fibre, so even if you decide to wash the trousers, they will dry within a few hours. So how do you freshen them up after training? Just air them! After intense exercise you’d probably put synthetic base layers on a sports cycle in the washing machine. Merino leggings only need to be hung outside in the fresh air. You don’t have to worry that bacteria and fungi will remain in the fibre – it’s an extremely hygienic material that inhibits the growth of microorganisms.
